Yoga is a world famous and very old Indian practice, almost dating back to 2500 BC, maybe even earlier and it is a system of exercises practiced as part of the Hindu discipline to promote control of the whole body and mind. Yoga takes advantage of stretching postures, breathing, and meditation techniques to calm the emotional state and the mind, and tone the body.
Meditation is a relaxation technique which increases mental awareness through focusing on the breath, an object, a word, a silent prayer or a Mantra. Meditation is fundamental to religion and one cannot be without the other, therefore it is as old as the history of religion. It achieves a state of profound relaxation, inner harmony. Meditation which is practiced by all major world religions is often described as an essential discipline for spiritual growth. When your mind is peaceful and happy, meditation is possible. It gives you more and more peace and happiness and the realization of the Self.
Ashram is a Hindu term for a spiritual center or retreat where disciples of a Guru (Master of Metaphysics who teaches students how to attain their optimal spiritual level) spend their time meditating and studying spiritual teachings.
