Inter-city transport such as train, bus, plane and even boat in India is very cheap and goes everywhere.
One of the most classic experiences in India is travelling by train. India’s rail network is the second largest in the world. Trains are mostly late but work well. Especially overnight trains can save you a day’s travelling and a night’s hotel bill. You can sleep well on trains in India, they are comfortable. India has 3 types of passenger trains; first and the most common in use one is inter-city train which is air conditioned and very fast, second type is passenger train which stops everywhere and very slow, third type is Shatabdi express which connect major cities in 8 hour travelling at day time.
The distance that you can go by train in 36 hour in India can take 2and half hour by plane. So many people also prefer to travel by plane in India because it is a big country. But of course by plane travelling cost more than train. In recent years there are more planes covering more routes than ever before for domestic flights in India. Flights on popular routes can be extremely reasonable for example $50 or £25. Air India and Indian Airlines are the most well known airlines in India but there are also other options as well.
In India there are some mountains that you cannot reach by train for example Himalayas but buses go everywhere. Buses are faster and more frequent than trains and also bus tickets are usually less expensive than train tickets.
There are nice islands in India such as The Andaman Islands and they can be reached by boat, there are also river ferries in India.

| Taxis have reasonable rates and available in everywhere. In India also there are many car rental companies that you can choose and rent a car for yourself. But if you are beginner for driving India is not a place for you. Traffic circulates on the left but drivers try and get out in front as soon as possible. Especially traffic in cities is undisciplined and heavy. You should have an international driving license to drive in India. |
