India Information

India is in Southern Asia and bordering the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea and lies among Nepal, Pakistan and China. India has 2,973,190 sq km land and 314,400 sq km water so it is covering more than 3 million square kilometers.

It is the 7th largest and the 2nd most populous country in the world with 1 billion populations.

New Delhi is the capital of India with 13 million people living there. 3 largest cities in India are Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi.
There are many children in a family so families are big.
English is widely spoken in here, Hindu is the language of 45% of the population and it is an official language. 23 major languages and 844 different dialects are spoken in India.

80% of India population believes in Hinduism and 10% believe in Muslim religion and other %10 are Buddhists, Christians, Sikhs, Parsees and Jains.

It is mainly an agricultural country and the climate in India varies from tropical monsoon in south to temperate in north, it also has a large iron and steel industry and produces every type of manufactured goods.

Almost 73% of males, 48% of females are literate in India.

India is a federal republic. The president if India is A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister of India is Dr. Manmohan Singh. India became independent and the flag was adopted on July 22, 1947.
